Call of Duty: World At War
Category: Game Development -
Post Date: Jun 9, 2008
Ladies, Gentleman, and pale-skinned gamers,
Call of Duty 5 is officially announced for the PC, 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii, and PlayStation 2. It's set for Activision's current fiscal year, which means a release in the holiday or spring 2009 quarters. But what is this Call of Duty 5 about?
The next installment takes the player back to the time before Modern Warfare, back what Call of Duty was originally about: World War II. Much to the dismay of current gamers tired of World War II games, the player will embark on a war in the Pacific against the Japanese Empire. Features will include 4-player co-op similar to the campaign witnessed in Call of Duty 4, squad-based elements, vehicles, and many more surprises to come. The weapon upgrade, rank and point tier system will be in place for the new Call of Duty with no official details on what exactly will be available to the player.
Players may be even more disappointed to find out that Infinity Ward, the series' creator and developer of the famed Call of Duty 4, will not be developing the next installment. Instead Treyarch will be doing the dirty work, the developer of Call of Duty 3. Have no fear worried fanatics; Call of Duty 5 will be utilizing the Call of Duty 4 engine, so everything will be familiar. Additions are even being made such as more destructible environments. With this teaser news and much more to look forward to, gamers take the Call of Duty 5 information with bittersweet, restrained joy and await hands-on previews.

I'd wait until we see how it goes before judgment, though it is a bit distressing.

Glad to hear it's back to WWII (hey, I'm a fanatic) but not glad to hear Infinity is not doing it.
This is interesting. It means they are working on something else. So the question is... are they working on CoD 6, or a completely new franchise?
This will be fun to watch unfold.

As people start to complain about the return to World War II, I was thinking the same thing about Infinity Ward's whereabouts. It must mean they're working on a project, possibly the direct sequel to Call of Duty 4?
Time will tell.

God.
Not another WWII CoD game.
I could really do without 4/5ths of a series dedicated to ONE time frame in history - And I love history!
I sort of wish the franchise wasn't so popular so there wasn't a need for one of these every year :/
As for where Infinity Ward are?
Probably passed out on a mountain of empty beer cans, after the impressive success of CoD4 and the map pack :B

Nothing's broken, it's just functioning differently.

Owned A Dreamcast
This is probably going to end up like COD3 (mostly ignored).
I could Infinity Ward splitting off their part of it (COD Modern Warfare franchise?). It wouldn't make much sense to just switch back and forth COD6:Modern, COD7:WWII, etc.
Then again I don't think it makes sense to have 2 very different teams doing every other installment in a series.

Played Final Fantasy Games Before FF7
I'd be stoked if I had a new console or a PC that could handle it. hopefully by then, i will!

Didn't they just release COD4? Hmmm, this sounds interesting, but reminds me of lots of great movies that had terrible sequels...

The Cake Is A Lie
ugh...i think infinity ward should just break away and form an entirley new set of modern warfare games. WWII is way overdone.

Master Chief dies at the end of H3? Big Deal. When I was playing he died like a hundred times...it never seemed to slow him down before.
